Sonic (Ben Schwartz) and Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessy) return in Sonic 2, two years after their first film. Now, Sonic is joined by Knuckles (Idris Elba) as they battle Dr. Robotnik (Jim Carrey) in his evil plan to use the Master Emerald for world dominance.

Sonic’s story follows his journey to find the Master Emerald, a source of limitless energy. He joins forces with Miles “Tails” Prower – an adorable fox with double tails – in search of this precious stone.

Sonic and Tails obtain a map from Longclaw (Donna Jay Fulks), leading them to the Siberian cave she mentioned as the location of the Master Emerald. There, they come across Knuckles, an echidna who joins forces with Robotnik to take out Sonic after he has claimed their tribe.

Knuckles attempts to murder Sonic and takes him to the temple to steal the Master Emerald, but Sonic and Tails fight back, distracting Robotnik enough that the emerald falls out of Robotnik’s hands. When that emerald breaks, seven Chaos Emeralds come tumbling out, ultimately defeating Robotnik. After that, Sonic and Tails become guardians for the emerald, protecting it from other evils.

Voice Acting

Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has long been associated with celebrity voice actors. From Jaleel White in the ’90s to Roger Craig Smith today, many recognizable personalities have voiced Sonic characters over time.

That is why Paramount Pictures chose voice actor Colleen O’Shaughnessy to portray Tails in Sonic 2. Not only is she an accomplished female voice artist, but also experienced at playing the role of Tails.

O’Shaughnessey has been voice-acting Tails in cartoons and video games since 2014, giving her experience voicing different characters. Additionally, as an experienced actress, she knows how to modulate her voice for different genres.

Other cast members in Sonic 2 include James Marsden as Green Hills Sheriff and Sonic’s human friend Tom Wachowski, Tika Sumpter as Tom’s wife Maddie, Natasha Rothwell as Maddie’s sister Rachel, Adam Pally as Robotnik’s loyal assistant Stone and Lee Majdoub as Robotnik himself. Additionally, Knuckles the Echidna will be portrayed by Idris Elba.

123 movies sonic 2 brings together several more video game characters, such as Tails (Colleen O’Shaughnessy) and Knuckles the Echidna (Idris Elba). This time around, Robotnik is on a quest to acquire the Master Emerald–an ancient relic which allows its user to manipulate reality.

Tom Holkenborg (MAD MAX: FURY ROAD, DEADPOOL) composed the soundtrack for this sequel, currently in theaters. His score weaves together several familiar themes as well as brand new ones to elevate the action.

Sonic, Meet Knuckles is the opening track on this EP and it features heavy percussion and striking brass instruments. It’s an ominous piece where two distinct themes collide, with Robotnik’s theme giving way to Knuckles’ before returning back to familiar territory.

At the start of Papa’s Got A Brand New Stache, both themes recur. It features plenty of percussion and brass instruments in an intense track with big orchestral results – creating a cool score in totality.

Starring Ben Schwartz, Jim Carrey, James Marsden, Tika Sumpter and Natasha Rothwell as human characters alongside newcomers Idris Elba as Knuckles the Echidna and Colleen O’Shaughnessy as Tails the two-tailed yellow fox, this animated feature promises plenty of thrills for viewers alike!

Sonic the Hedgehog returns in Sonic 2 as an authentic recreation of classic video games inspired by Marvel comic books, unlike its predecessor which parodied Marvel-style comic books. This time around, James Marsden stars as a human sheriff alongside Tika Sumpter as sheriff for life.
