Schizophrenia is a terrible mental illness. In most cases in our country, no one usually wants to give much importance to psychological problems. In most cases, the treatment of mental illness starts at the very last moment. And then the situation almost got out of control.

The disease was first discovered in 18 by the German psychologist Emil Kraepelin. This disease thought to affect consciousness. It simultaneously causes behavioral and emotional chronic problems. In 1911, Eugen Bleuler first used the term schizophrenia.

There are more than 20 million people in the world with Schizophrenia alone, most of whom are largely neglected. According to the health website Schizophrenia.com, The number of such patients in China is around 8 million to 12 million. The number of these patients in India is 40 lakh 30 thousand to 60 lakh 60 thousand.

The life expectancy of a person with Schizophrenia is 15-20 years shorter than the average life expectancy of a normal person. That is, the patient dies of Schizophrenia much earlier than the average person. Adolescents between the ages of 20-45, men and women, can be affected by this disease.

Therefore, you should seek the help of a psychiatrist as soon as you see the initial symptoms. Even the slightest negligence can lead to death. So know the main symptoms of Schizophrenia and take appropriate treatment at the beginning.

The main symptoms of Schizophrenia are manifested in three ways:

  1. Inconsistency in thinking: –

  • Unnecessary doubt in mind: Doubt may occur for any reason. But people with the disease also tend to suspect people walking down the street. They think everyone is joking about him, Criticizing or looking at with exceptional eyes.
  • Belief in the wrong things: People with Schizophrenia tend to think unreasonable and unrealistic things are right. For example, everyone is harming him, there is poison in his food, even if he doesn’t say it, someone knows the secrets of his mind, etc.

2. Behavioral problems: –

  • Suddenly laughing out loud, again crying for no reason.
  • Suddenly becoming very angry or agitated.
  • Not wanting to mix with people at all.
  • Trying to commit suicide without any reason.
  • Standing in one place for hours without any reason.
  • Behave in a way that you did not do before.
  • Trying to undress in public.
  1. Feeling problems: –

  • Even if no one talks to him, it may seem as if someone is talking to him. Patients with Schizophrenia also hear animal calls in this way.
  • Insects walk on the body.
  • Getting to smell something special, even though no one else is getting that smell.

If the symptoms mentioned above are seen in someone for more than six months, then he may have Schizophrenia. However, in many cases, the patient recovers quickly with the advice of a doctor and in the presence of relatives.

Causes of Schizophrenia:

Scientists do not know the exact cause of Schizophrenia. However, Schizophrenia, like cancer and diabetes, has a biological basis. Researchers have uncovered several factors that contribute to the development of Schizophrenia:

  • Genetics: If a parent has this disease, the child is more likely to have it.
  • Brain Chemistry and Circuits: People with this disease may have irregular brain chemicals that can affect thinking and behavior.
  • Brain abnormalities: Studies have found some abnormal structures in the brain of people with Schizophrenia. However, not all people with Schizophrenia have this abnormality, and people who are not affected by the disease may also have this abnormality.
  • Environmental factors: Increased risk of Schizophrenia due to viral infections, spending time around toxins, highly stressful situations, etc. When the body goes through hormonal or physical changes – such as adolescence – the symptoms of Schizophrenia are more likely to occur.

Who has Schizophrenia?

Schizophrenia can affect any person. It is found everywhere in the world, among people of all races and cultures. It happens equally to both women and men. Although it can happen at any age, symptoms of Schizophrenia usually first appear in adolescents in men or 20-22 years of age and women in the age group of 25-35 years.

If Schizophrenia occurs at a young age, then it can take a fatal shape with age. It can affect children over five years of age. However, it is improbable to happen before adolescence.

How is Schizophrenia diagnosed?

If symptoms of Schizophrenia are seen, the doctor will know the complete medical history of the patient and may perform some physical examinations. Although there are no laboratory tests correctly to diagnose Schizophrenia, doctors will perform a variety of criteria. Blood tests and brain imaging studies will try to understand if the symptoms are due to any other reason.

If the doctor does not find any other cause for the signs of Schizophrenia, he will refer the patient to a psychiatrist or psychologist. Psychiatrists and psychologists try to understand the patient’s mental state through specially designed interviews. If the patient has symptoms of Schizophrenia for at least six months, then he is considered to have Schizophrenia.
